Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is the largest industrial employer in the State of Hawaii.  As a Manager of the Structural Department which includes Shipfitters, Welders, and Sheetmetal workers, I was tasked to improve the current working conditions for our personnel. The metal fabrication and welding processes contributed to large amounts of dust and debris, and our high bay lighting was not providing adequate lighting. Our initial idea was to erect a paint booth for our dust/fume-producing operations. We took to the internet and came across Filter-1 and their Dustron and Benchtron products. A quick request for information on their website led to Filter-1 sending two representatives for a site check two weeks later. We were blown away by their presentation, professionalism, and sincere care for our employees’ safety and well-being.  After their visit, we decided to purchase two 70-foot-long Dustrons and two double-sided 20-foot long Benchtrons.  

When our workforce got word of the new products we purchased and planned to install, we were met with a huge amount of resistance. I heard every complaint you can imagine, and personnel even questioned my competency as their manager. Fast forward to a couple of months after the installation…Our workers LOVE the Dustron and Benchtrons. Aside from the air quality benefits, the LED lighting provided much better visibility.

The word of us getting the Filter-1 products started spreading around our Shipyard and to our Corporate Partners. We just completed another installation of Filter-1 products at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and have plans for many more.
